From a desk in a classroom in the city to the wild Santa Cruz Mountains, there are many different ways to learn. Two sixth grade students at Brookvale School in California were given the chance to try out the latter when Fremont Lodge No. 2121 used their Gratitude Grant to fund their trip to science camp.

While there, the students had opportunities to hike the mountains, climb the rock wall, learn about plants and animals, and study global warming. At the end of the week, as is science camp tradition, they also kissed a slug!
Thanks to the Elks, these students came away with some new knowledge, some new friends, and an understanding of some of the good things Elks do in their communities.
Brookvale School Principal Cindy Hicks-Rodriguez thanks the Elks for their kind donation and says “The camp was enjoyed by all students who attended. The students’ families and the students themselves are forever grateful for your kindness.”
